Your final exam will ask you to read and write using the skills and techniques worked on this year.

You MUST be able to:

  • compose topic sentences

  • select and embed evidence

  • draw conclusions about reading selections

  • predict plot or character reactions

  • explain your reasoning

Here is a PDF with sample questions:  SampleQuestions.pdf

And there will be a section on your independent reading (SSR) choices.  HERE are the questions you will answer:

How well did you read during SSR?  Why?

  • Compare it to time spent reading at home...

Which books/novels read for SSR this year were your favorites?  WHY?

  • What do YOU like about them?

  • What will you remember about them in 2 years?

What should a good read for 9th graders include?

  • Refer to specifics about plot, character, dialogue, or theme to explain your ideas.

Which of your SSR book(s) read this year would you put on a 9th Grade Shelfari shelf?  Why?

Which of your SSR books that YOU enjoyed do you think others would NOT?  Why?

For which book did you write the BEST review?

  • What made this review better than others?  Be specific.  You might consider the quality of the book, the effort or enthusiasm you put in, or even the process.

Going forward, what sort of a reader are you?

  • What will you tell your English teacher next year?
